Amber Chia’s guide to a Successful Modelling Career is the first of many to come in the Masterclass Series by MPH, a new line of books by local experts sharing their knowledge and experience in their areas of specialty.The book is not meant to be a technical know how of posing or catwalk but instead an off the cuff sort of guide book for a successful modelling career based on practical experience and personal journeys.

“I did not know a thing about modelling when I started out as a teenager. I wish there was a school or a guidebook that I could have referred to back then.” says Amber. “I managed to set up a modelling academy a few years back and now, I’m so happy that I can also produce a guidebook to help aspiring models.”

Amber Chia’s Guide consists of 11 chapters, each full of advice for young women keen on pursuing a modelling career in Malaysia and beyond. Topics covered include how to assess oneself, modelling platforms, professional attitude, personal branding, avoiding scams, other employment opportunities and much more.

Amber also shares her journey, from her childhood days in Tawau daydreaming about modelling, to winning the GUESS international ambassadorship and where she is today.

With no mentor and no connections in the industry, she could have easily stumbled and made the kind of mistakes many aspiring models make on their quest for success. But her steely determination to make it big on her terms guided Amber through the difficult years.

Now, in a single book, she shares all the best practices for succeeding in the field that she has so thoroughly dominated.

“Being a professional model is hard work, but at the end of the day, if it is something you enjoy and have passion for, modelling can be a very rewarding career choice. I made that choice a long time ago and despite the ups and downs, I’m glad I did.”

Amber Chia’s Guide to a Successful Modelling Career is published by MPH Group Publishing and will be available in all major bookstores at RM35.90 a copy. It will also be available as an e-Book via MPH Digital.

Once in a while we will see fashion show where the stylist will dress up the models with more than the brand’s dresses and apparels. They will use their creativity to adorn the models with anything under the sun, such as head gears, shades, arm candies and even colorful socks. So it’s quite refreshing, when Springfield showcased their Spring Summer collection with models carrying sun flowers, groceries bag and even having their models biting the flowers by their steams. Nice touch!

Child models can never ceased to amaze and surprise me whenever they take to the runways. They can sometimes be so confident and other times so freaked out that make the unpredictability of children fashion shows so entertaining and fun to watch. If you have never seen one before, you should make way to one soon with your kids or babies. Who knows? They might be inspired to be a child models too!

House of Treats really do bring the house down with their creative & beautiful fashion.

It’s one of those fashion house that is tucked away at one corner of the shopping mall and catered to mostly repeat customers. But if you have the luck and insight to stumble into their shop, you are in for a big fashionable treat. Although a local brand, the clothes and accessories curated by them are really of high quality and are meant for beautiful and comfortable day-to-day wear. Their brochure given by them didn’t say much about what they have to offer but judging from the photos here, I am sure words and printed materials were not needed to promote their brand of fashion.

I am not even going to caption any of the remaining photos but to just let the photos do the talking. As they say, a photo speaks a thousand words. Enjoy!

Kipling bags are effortlessly stylish, colorful and fun as well as practical and durable enough for even the most active individual.

For a brand that always attach a mascot monkey to their bags, they sure know how to portray their bags in a stylish, colorful and fun way in a fashion show. It’s refreshing to see the models having fun carrying, slinging, and swinging those colorful and attractively designed bags up and down the runway. The bags were most certainly designed with the young or young at heart on mind, as the bags on show were funky, colorful, fashionable and most importantly affordable to their targeted audience. They have certainly moved on from “The Jungle Book” to the concrete jungle. Bravo Kipling!

What better to illustrate the theme than to orchestrate a dance performance depicting the growth and blossoming of seeds to beautiful flowers. All the clothing brands that are taking part in this year fashion week gave us a glimpse of what to expect in the coming weeks. I am sure they are saving the best for last. So do make your way to the 1 Utama Shopping Centre during the next 2 weekends and feast your eyes on the best fashion showcase money cannot buy in the whole of Kuala Lumpur.
